Figuring out what to wear is always a tough task. As much as I love putting outfits together, when you have to have something to wear to a specific event or place (even work), it becomes more of a stressful task than something to enjoy. I always tend to overthink it or wait to the last minute and end up throwing something on that doesn’t make me feel my best, I’m also a firm believer in that our outfits can fully determine our mood. There is nothing worse than not feeling confident when it comes to your wardrobe choices.
As we get older and start to learn what works for us and what doesn’t, we also start to build a wardrobe of pieces that we love and know will work. Once we’ve been able to fill our closet with wardrobe essentials and pieces we love, it’s easy to pull something out, know it looks good and feel confident in what we chose.
However, when you’re still in the limbo stage of having your wardrobe consist of pieces from your twenties that may be more trendy and pieces that you truly do love and know work for you, it’s a good idea to have some go-to outfits. Looks that work for most occasions in your life and that you can reach for and feel completely confident in.
Allison and I have a couple of these looks….outfits that consist of our wardrobe essentials and that we wear when we have nothing to wear. They are not anything fancy, but they fit our lifestyles and we know they work for whatever we have going on.
Our Go-To Looks When We Have Nothing To Wear
My go-to looks are looks that work both for work and weekend. They consist of pieces that are absolute wardrobe essentials for me and that I know I can throw on and go.
My first look is definitely more on the casual side. A simple, maxi dress that with a change of shoes can work for most occasions. This is definitely a weekend look. Paired with flip flops and denim jacket, this is my uniform. But I’ve worn this dress with sneakers for a day of walking. And paired with heels, it’s perfect for a day at the office.
My second look is more of a business casual look, but it’s also a go-to look when we are going out for dinner or getting together with friends. For work I’d definitely change up the ankle strap sandals for a pair of black pumps and a more structured back would make it office appropriate.
Blazers are so versatile and can dress up any casual outfit. I have a blazer in every color and fit imaginable and wear them often. They are great for business meetings, dinner dates and can take a casual outfit to a more dressed looked without looking like I tried too hard. A good pair of jeans is a must too! I always grab a really casual pair or my black jeans. My black jeans are my favorite! They can be worn casual or dressed up. Not to mention they go with everything!
Lately I’ve been really into graphic tees so I’ve been pairing these under all my blazers and jackets. Graphic tees are something I never get rid of so I building quite the collection. The graphics add a fun element, youthful look to my outfits.
When in doubt, grab a blazer, graphic tee and jean. You will look cute and put together without looking like you tried so hard.
