Thanksgiving is all about the table. It’s the place we gather around with friends and family to celebrate the holiday, eat the delicious food we’ve waited all day for and share with others all we have to be thankful for.
If you are hosting Thanksgiving this year, creating a simple, yet beautiful, tablescape will definitely help to elevate the atmosphere. However designing and implementing a tablescape can be a bit intimidating. There is so much beautiful inspiration out there (hello Pinterest) that it can quickly become overwhelming. The good news is though, it doesn’t have to be.
Creating a Thanksgiving tablescape can be incredibly simple. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money and it doesn’t need to take a lot of time. You can easily create a Thanksgiving tablescape that is simple, cost effective AND beautiful.
5 Tips For a Beautiful yet Affordable Thanksgiving Tablescape
Fall colors are usually pretty dark and moody, but that doesn’t mean you can’t implement a classic white color palette. White dishes are always a good idea if you are hosting. They can be used for multiple occasions and you can find cost effective ones just about anywhere. Same goes for a white tablecloth. When building a tablescape it’s nice to start with a simple base and then pick up the color in your floral and decor.
2. Make Use of Your Leftover Halloween Pumpkins
If you are anything like me, you purchased quite a few pumpkins to decorate for halloween. Good news! They make perfect decor for your Thanksgiving table. However if you don’t have leftover pumpkins, you can easily purchase a bag of plastic ones on Amazon. I did this a few years ago. Spray painted them white and gold and have used them on my Thanksgiving tablescape for the past 3 years. It’s cheap decor that can be used over and over, but still looks beautiful.
3. Arrange Your Own Flowers
Floral arrangements can get expensive real quick. Pick-up a variety of florals at your local grocery store and put them together yourself. Not only will you get a lot more for your budget, but you’ll be able to tell the guests you did it all yourself 😉 This is where you would want to pick your color scheme. Hydrangeas are some of my favorite flowers to decorate with. They are incredibly full, so you don’t need a lot of them in order to make your arrangements look robust.
4. All the Candles
The more the merrier, in my opinion! Candles always add a bit of elegance to any tablescape. They will help to fill up the table, but in a way that won’t cost you a ton of many. Mix and match the ones you have laying around your house. Play with heights as well! While they aren’t always the most practical to have lit, they’ll still look pretty! However, if you are lighting them, make sure they are unscented!
5. Play with Napkins
Napkins are another piece you can get rather inexpensive. You can stick with the white theme (again, they can be used time and time again). But napkins are also a great way to add more color to your table. Napkins can be displayed in so many ways. From different folding techniques to napkin rings and name tags. The options are pretty much endless.
While there is endless inspiration out there for Thanksgiving tablescape ideas, it’s always fun to come up with your own. Keeping it simple and to your taste is key. Be sure to take into consideration the atmosphere you are wanting for your company and go from there. Keep it casual or make it more formal. Just don’t over think it!
