With the unofficial start to summer this past weekend, we are officially ready to check-out with a good book and escape to a fictitious world while we soak up the all the summer sun (with sunscreen of course!).
As you can see, we kept it pretty light.
The majority of these books are quintessential beach reads that you can easily devour in a couple of days. But because we still have life happening, our goal is to read a book each month. We’ve outlined the ones we plan on reading below and are thinking, once we finish up each book, we will hop on Instagram Stories and share a quick recap of each. Kind of like our own little book club 🙂
If you have any good books you are reading this summer or that you recommend for a good summer read, let us know! We are always on the hunt for new books to read.
Our Picks for the Best Books to Read this Summer
June’s Book List
I picked this book up a few months ago but I still haven’t started it. June is my month to finish this book! I first was intrigued by this book because it’s on Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club list and I love her so I thought why not?! It’s a light hearted book that I’m excited to escape into.
This book is the second in a series I had started last summer. I read the first book, Slightly South of Simple, but completely spaced on picking up this book, so it’s going to be my first read for the summer. It’s a story of 3 sisters and their mother in a little beach town called Peachtree Bluff. The first one was a super easy read, but definitely kept my attention, so I’m looking forward to diving into the second book.
July’s Book List
Shannon told me about this book and she loved it! It’s a fiction story capturing the love affair between Ernst Hemingway and his wife Hadley. I love the 1920’s and I love Paris so I know I’ll love this book too!
I was first introduced to Elin Hilderbrand’s books a couple years ago when my boss gave me The Rumor. Since then I have read several more of her books. Summer of ‘69 is her newest book out on June 18th, and will definitely be my pick for the month of July. HIlderbrand’s books all take place in Nantucket and make for the best beach reads I’ve yet to come across.
August’s Book List
Available on June 4th. I love all of Elizabeth Gilbert’s books especially Eat, Pray, Love so I’m sure this will be another book of hers I love. City of Girls is a love story set in the 1940’s New York City theater world. An older woman looks back on her younger life during this time.
I’ve seen this book all over Instagram and I’m officially adding it to my list of must-reads for the summer. It’s definitely not as light-hearted as the other two books I picked, but with over 600 reviews totaling 4.5 stars, I’m convinced it’s got to be a good one. It’s supposed to be reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac’s rise to fame as well as their break-up. So good reviews and Fleetwood Mac vibes, sounds like a good combo!
