Is there anything better than being able to spend time on your own backyard patio when the weather permits? Doing just that has quickly become my favorite way to spend our evenings during the weekend.
We’ve lived in our house for going on 10 years now and during those 10 years are backyard had been seriously neglected. Because we didn’t spend a lot of time out there, renovating it was never high on our priority list.
Don’t get me wrong, it was something we knew we definitely wanted/needed to do. The metal roof with stars on top and the massive hole (which we have no idea what it was) in the middle of the patio was never what we envisioned our patio to look like. But because we spent most of our evenings on the weekends out, we didn’t really put much effort into it.
Last year though we finally decided to go for it. Brandon, being the handyman that he is, tore down the hideous metal roof and got to work. He built the entire new roof (although I did stain a few pieces of wood) and once he finished that up, we hired someone to come in and do the pavers.
I honestly couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out. I look forward to spending our evenings out there, watching one of our shows, snuggled up with our babies and sipping on a glass of wine. It truly makes me so happy, those moments.
This little renovation was 100% worth it.
Our Backyard Patio Reveal
A couple before shots…
As you can see it definitely was not pretty. To be fair though, these pictures were taken 10 years ago. The one on the left was actually before we even moved in. But nonetheless, it was not a space you’d want to spend time in.
The metal roof had stars all over the ceiling, the metal posts were incredibly flimsy and had seen better days, the brick pavers were coming up all over the place with grass growing in between the majority of them, and then there is the ever mysterious circle in the center of the pavers.
To this day, we can’t figure out what it was. Maybe a garden, or if the roof was a later addition, a fire pit? Who knows. I’m just happy it is gone.
And the backyard patio reveal….
The Lounge Area
The number one thing I wanted out of our patio redo was a place to watch TV in the evenings. Sitting outside in the evening, with a glass of wine and watching a good TV show/movie just always sounded like the perfect way to unwind from the weekend. And let me tell you, when the weather permits, it 100% is!
Because we allow our dogs on the couch (eyeroll), we didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a really nice set. As much as I wanted an all white, super plush patio set, it just is not practical…one day. This couch fit the bill perfectly. It’s comfy, cozy and matched with the dining table we already had.
We actually purchased this table from Target several years ago. Outside of the occasional breakfast, we didn’t really use it too often. However now that we have redone our patio we eat dinner out here at least once during the weekend. We have breakfast on Sunday mornings and I’ll do some work out there on Friday.
A Couple Details
The succulent wall was one of the first things I did after getting the pavers done. I shared how I did it in this Succulent Wall post. Much to my surprise, the succulents are completely thriving and I still love how it adds a little something extra to the patio.
This hanging chair was a Christmas gift from my sister. While it is one of favorite places to lounge, every person who comes to the house claims it as their favorite spot. It’s fun and actually super comfortable!
Typing up this backyard patio reveal post is making me even more sad that summer is just around the corner. We’ve been lucky this month with some unusually cool weather, so we are trying to soak in as much as we can.
