Lately I continue to find myself dreaming of a getaway to France. A dip in the pool. A long lunch. A cocktail by a fire. And some very good local wine. From coast to countryside, from mountaintop to Montmartre, here are 5 must visit destinations in France that are currently on my radar.
Domaine Misíncu – Cap Corse, Corsica, France
On the northern shores of Corsica you will find this is an eco-luxury escape Domaine Misíncu. The doors opened in the summer of 2017. The property has given this end of the island a breath of fresh air. At the wild tip of the island, Cap Corse, this seaside hideaway even has a river running through it. Outdoor yoga and Pilates take place on the banks! With a Zen-like design that soothes from the second you arrive, your only difficulty will be packing up to leave. This is Corsica at its best: a refined building, 2 restaurants, a natural spa, beach… Paradise is calling!
La Co(o)rniche – Pyla-Sur-Mer, Cap Ferret, France
Dubbed the Cape Cod of France, Cap Ferret (not to be mistaken for it’s flashier counterpart Cap Ferrat) is one of the best kept secrets that only the French seemingly know. This beachy bluff west of Bordeaux forgoes glamour for the simpler things: surfing, fishermen’s cottages and freshly shucked oysters. Formerly a 1930s hunting lodge and oyster farming house, La Co(o)rniche has since been reimagined – this 29-room boutique hotel boasts breathtaking views over the Bassin d’Arcachon and the dune de Pyla, the highest dune in Europe. It’s the pinnacle of seaside sophistication. The hotel restaurant’s views of the Dune du Pilat and Arcachon Bay are reason enough to go. But so are its platters of fresh langoustines, clams, mussels and oysters.
La Borde – Leugny, France
Just 45 minutes from Chablis, La Borde is a great homebase to explore the beautiful countryside of Burgundy. Owned by a husband and wife, this boutique property is intimate with just 5 rooms. With beautiful gardens landmarked by the French government this converted manor is bursting with charm and character. The owners prepare all the food on property and cook a 4 course meal for guests who alert them in advance they will be dining in. Not to mention the full breakfast spread every morning! Freshly baked croissants, pressed juices, cheese, charcuterie, and eggs made to order…yum! Spend the afternoon sunning at the pool or relax in the solarium with a glass of wine after a day of touring. Either way we promise you will feel right at home.
Hotel Lutetia – Paris, France
In the vibrant Saint-Germain-des-Prés area of Paris, you’ll find the iconic landmark Hôtel Lutetia — the only luxury grand hotel on the city’s Left Bank. Originally opened in 1910, the Art Nouveau property has recently re-opened after a four year total transformation. Keeping the spirit of the historic building, the renovation restored many of the art deco elements while integrating new contemporary features. The service here is exceptional—especially the concierge—who will definitely recommend all the best local places to go on the Left Bank during your stay. More than a century later, Hôtel Lutetia continues to deliver an authentic Parisian experience and has remained a favorite amongst Parisians and chic travelers alike.
Terminal Neige Refuge Du Montenvers – Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France
Perched 6725 feet above sea level on the striking Mont-Blanc mountain range of the French Alps, Terminal Neige Refuge du Montenvers is a place of history and authenticity. Originally built in 1880 as a place for the first mountaineers and travelers who came to visit the Mer de Glace to stay, this hotel has since undergone an extensive renovation to revive the historic alpine retreat with a perfect balance of old and new. All rooms have sweeping views of the massive glacier not to be outdone by the signature restaurant on property, Le Panoramique Mer de Glace which serves lunch with 360-degree views from its terrace. And it would not be a chic retreat without a lobby lounge as a place to gather for an après-ski or post-hike indulgence, while cozying up next to the striking fireplace for hot toddies and glasses of bubbly every night.
We would love to hear from you! What are your must visit destinations in France?
