As you may know, I attempted a Work Capsule Wardrobe this past summer. I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to stick with it or if I would even enjoy it, but turns out capsule wardrobes are pretty great.
Getting dressed for work is always a major pain point for me. I’ve never been the type of person who picks their clothes out the night before. So getting dressed in the morning usually consists of throwing on whatever isn’t wrinkly, in a mad rush, as I dash out the door. After a while, I just began to feel sloppy.
To be honest, I think how we dress has a major effect on our moods. When we feel put together and confident in what we are wearing, it’s hard to feel bad and be in a bad mood. Avoiding that not-so-great feeling of not loving what I was wearing was why I started the capsule wardrobe, to begin with.
With the new season approaching, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to start-up a fall capsule wardrobe, specifically for work.
Below I have broken down the 23 pieces that are making up my fall capsule wardrobe. As with most capsule wardrobes, it is mostly neutrals, wardrobe staples that can be easily mixed and matched. Most of these pieces I already own, with the exception of the camel sweater. Because of this, a lot of my pieces are older, but I tried to link very similar pieces below. I’ve also included a brief explanation of why I chose each piece below.
If you are interested in seeing the looks I put together each week using these pieces from my fall capsule wardrobe, I’ll be sending them out via our newsletter. I haven’t yet decided if I want to do the videos again or just a simple collage of each look, but either way if you want to see, sign-up for our newsletter here
Fall Capsule Wardrobe for Work
Blazers & Jackets
Blazers – Between a plaid, black and white blazer, I think I’ll be well covered when it comes to layering. When it comes to fall wardrobes, blazers are a must! I wanted to make sure I had a good variety.
Tan Overcoat – I’ve had a version of this tan overcoat for several years now and it is always a go-to for me. I knew it would be a perfect fit in my fall capsule wardrobe. Especially for layering.
Utility Top – I love a good utility top. It can be worn as a light jacket or as a regular top.
Black Cardigan – Can you even have a fall wardrobe without a black cardigan? It’s a piece that will easily mix and match with every other piece in this wardrobe.
Tan Wide Leg Pants – Wide leg pants are a must for me. I just recently got this tan pair and love the color for fall.
Black Cropped Pants – I have a leather version of these and they are so comfy. I love that they can be dressed up or down.
Pleated Pants – These pleated pants were another recent purchase from Zara. I am obsessed with them. I am also loving lighter colors for fall, so these are perfect.
Black Turtleneck – An absolute staple in my fall/winter wardrobe. Couldn’t do this without a black turtleneck.
White Tee – Another basic, must-have piece in any wardrobe. A white tee will be perfect for layering under blazers and sweaters for a more casual feel.
Camel Sweater – Camel color anything is a must-have for fall. This sweater will be a great lightweight piece to take me through the season.
White Blouse – My last capsule wardrobe I didn’t really include a blouse, so I wanted to make sure I did this time around. A classic cream one is a perfect fit.
Black & White Blouse – I got a version of this top from Target last year and absolutely loved the way it made me feel. Plus it’s something a little different than all the other solid pieces.
I didn’t include shoes in my summer capsule wardrobe, so I wanted to give it a go this time. Black pumps and black flats were an obvious choice. The white sneakers will be great for dressing things down. Ankle boots, because fall 🙂 And I love a good pair of leopard pumps, so figured I’d work them in somehow.
